iOS 6: Worth an Update for your Apple Devices
The new iOS 6 operating system by Apple has some pros and cons but, on a whole, it is worth having. Many new apps have been added which are very user friendly. 3D maps and Siri are the most amazing integrations. Although, many of the apps added in iOS 6 have been existed in Android OS for a long time. Still, the new update will improve the iPhone experience a lot. It can be said that iOS 6 is not a game-changer. Rather, it is an incremental upgrade by Apple. Here are some of the major changes you will observe in the new OS.
iOS 6: Maps
A major change in iOS 6 is that Google Maps has been removed from the phone. The OS now has its own application for maps. Its graphics is vector based which shows clear text and details at full zoom. The touch rotation and pan swiping are quite smooth.
The incredible changes that can be seen in the newer devices are 3D views, flyover features and directions through voice. This new app basically gives you a virtual tour of the city which is wonderful to look at. But, it’s more on the show-off part than practical use.
The important feature that is available on the newer devices is the Siri dictation. Siri will guide you to your destination and 3D mode can be switched on to get the better look (especially when iPhone is kept on the dashboard) while you receive voice directions on every turn. This app will also provide you with faster routes on the basis of live traffic data.
One major thing missing from the new Maps app is absence of transit directions. It only shows you walking and driving directions. This is where we miss Google Maps which shows estimated time for both walking and transit directions.
iOS 6: Passbook
It is an amazing way to keep the electronic versions of all your passes. The loyalty cards, admission tickets, coupons and boarding passes can be kept at one place instead of being scattered way in your emails and different applications. So, you can see the bar codes and QR codes any time you want. Moreover, it alerts you if timings are changed. It automatically displays the required pass using your location.
iOS 6: Siri
Siri was first launched with iPhone 4S. It was an impressive app that could answer the user’s queries. It helped in finding nearby restaurants, giving you reminders of the scheduled events and more. It was basically like the phone was talking back to you. But, iOS 6 has expanded the limits of what Siri can deliver to you. It can now open apps and remember your recent questions. You can ask Siri for sports scores and movies showing in your city. You can also post on Facebook and Twitter directly using Siri. All of this is done with your voice. Overall, it is a very useful app.
iOS 6: Integrated Facebook
Finally, we get Facebook integration in iOS 6. Previously, iOS 5 had Twitter integration and Facebook was really missed. Now, sharing links or photos are just some clicks away using the integrated Facebook. Facebook photos, calendars and contacts can be synced with your iPhone now.
iOS 6: Phone Controls
The iPhones are less known for making phone calls. Well, iOS 6 has made some nice improvements in the phone controls. Now, you can reply to the calls with text directly and set reminders for missed calls. It is quite useful when you are busy with some work and wish to attend a call later when you have free time.
