According to some leaked photos of the sixth generation phone by Apple, the iPhone 5, it is being claimed that the device would contain a Near Field Communication chip. This chip would be installed on the front panel of the device along with the usual home button and the front camera.

The previous photos of iPhone 5 did not have any such unidentified part but these recent photos posted by the Apple.pro blog have rendered the AppleInsider to regard this unidentified part as the NFC chip since the size of the part does not lead to any other speculation. Apple.pro is a Taiwan based blog that contains updated posts about Apple.

This is just a speculation made by AppleInsider itself and it says “it cannot verify the unknown part’s origin or intended use.” So, this is just a guess made based on the size and shape of that unidentified part located just next to the front camera of iPhone 5. The part is square shaped and is of the order of the size of other NFC chips. There is no verification or full-proof of the NFC yet.
In a similar Japanese tech blog, Macotakara, there is a similar issue rising. According to that blog, the next iPod touch would consist of an NFC chip as there is noticed a mysterious hole, next to the camera of the device.

If the rumours about iPhone 5 come out to be true and the device is actually equipped with a Near Field Communication chip, the device would serve as a digital wallet as well and it would be possible for the iPhone 5 users to pay for goods and service via their Smartphone without the need of cash-in-hand. The Smartphone is rightly called the next generation Smartphone.

This could also be predicted out of Apple because Google has already been launching devices with the Near Field Communication technology built in some of them. So, Apple obviously would not want to lag behind and hence, the iPhone 5 have been equipped with this technology. But, till the verification is not provided officially, we cannot be sure.

Near Field Communication technology is a very good one, provided that its essential pre-requisites are heeded properly and consumers start relying on it completely. This technology does exist in many parts of Europe already but is yet to expand in the United States. A type of Mobile payment service, the Near Field Communication technology requires collaboration and agreement of a number of major market players. The handset makers, the mobile carriers and the financial institutions as well need to come together and agree to this new system. Further, consumers have to rely on the system as it is all about the consumers’ money. If the process turns out to be safe and secure and the consumers are convinced that it would not their financial or bank account information at risk, it would be really amazing to have a generation of digital wallets.
Let us hope that the unidentified part just next to the front camera of iPhone 5 turns out to be an NFC chip itself.
